Meet the man who introduced blind football to Uganda
Lamido Dessie is the man credited for introducing blind football at the Uganda Football Association (UFA). He was the founder and is the president of the Association and the chairman of the Football Development Committee (FDC). He was also the first vice president of the Association when the league first started. He was also the chairman of the football committee when the league was started and is also an ex-football teacher.
He was the head of the department of education at Kampala Polytechnic University. He is a native of Uganda, but was a part of the African Football Academy. His footballing achievements include winning the African Football Union (AFU) Under 23 team and playing at the Africa Cup of Nations. He was also awarded the Uefa Under-17 Player of the Year award for the 2006 edition of the competition in Nigeria.

When I was young I was watching football a lot. I also played football, and I was trying to achieve what I was trying to achieve. When I was young I was always playing football, but at school I was always trying not to play football.
I decided that I would like to play football but I was not going to play football at school. When I was in the youth organisation, football is the thing that everybody was talking about. I was not saying that I was going to quit football but I was trying to play football in the youth organisation.
I realised that you either play football or you play academics. You can only play football or academics and there was no difference. If you say you are going to study, you are not going to study.
I decided to give football a try because I was trying to achieve what I was trying to achieve. I was an athlete at school but not at my age.
