The question of whether or not abortion is immoral has vexed women for over a hundred years. The most frequent answer has been pro-life, which is as it should be. Abortion, to those who support it, is just another form of contraception, a practice that makes people want to have more children. To those who oppose it, however, abortion is a way to destroy the lives of unborn children. This is a hard position to square in the minds of people who love their offspring. It seems to be a matter of self-preservation.

For women who are pro-choice, this is the choice that is right and wrong in the same sentence.

For many pro-life women, this decision is a little more complicated, and it’s difficult to find a rationalization for it. There isn’t a single, common thread that runs through their pro-choice ideology. Many of them simply do not believe that women who want to kill an unborn child should have that choice. I’m not sure why this is so hard to grasp, except perhaps because it’s so foreign to most people. Yet women who want to kill their children—who are often not pro-choice—don’t really think about how they would feel if that were their only option.
